Elemental Skytower

Dallas, Texas USA

Elemental Skytower now installed at the entrance to Cypress Waters a 1,000 acre recreation development in the heart of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, just five minutes from DFW International Airport. This exciting new project was commissioned by Billingsley Company and curated by New York Gallery Blank Space.

Elemental Skytower was made over a period of 9 months in the USA in 1″ solid roundstainless steel bar and stand at 11 metres high [35ft]  The project involved detailed planning with several scale maquettes and test samples to meet the visual and technical challenges of this unique artistic concept. Further landscaping will be undertaken during 2019 to create a focal point and landmark to Cypress Waters.

Settlement
Heysham Head and Birkrigg Common.
England 2018

Public exhibition at Birkrigg near Ulverston from 15th September 2018

Medium : Mixed media, stainless steel

British sculptor and environmental artist Rob Mulholland was commissioned by Morecombe Bay Partnership as part of their ‘ Headlands to Headspace’ project to develop an outdoor site specific art installation to reflect the heritage of Morecombe Bay. Rob developed a series of mirrored dwellings to be temporarily installed at Heysham Head near Morecombe and Birkrigg Common near Ulverston in Cumbira.

Inspired by early Anglo-Saxon designs, the dwellings aim to encourage viewers to consider the influence of people of the past on Morecambe Bay. Six mirrored figures interspersed with the dwellings represent the communities that once settled on this land, reminding the viewer of the people who worked the land and the sea in centuries gone by. By using mirrored surfaces Mulholland brings literal reflection into being, making the viewer and a distorted landscape and sky integral parts of the work. By catching glimpses of themselves, viewers see an image not only in the present, but a hint of those who may have walked in the same landscape, a vestige of the past

New Major Commission for 2018

Rob has been selected to create a new entrance sculpture for Cypress Waters, a 1,000 acre recreation development in the heart of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex, just five minutes from DFW International Airport.
Several designs were submitted on Rob’s behalf by New York Gallery Blank Space for consideration, including an upscaled version of Skytower which was the selection panels preferred option.  This new version will be made in stainless steel and stand at 11 metres high [35ft]  This will be the second public artwork undertaken by Rob in America and he is looking forward to creating this sculpture over the coming year.
